Plum Island Kayak - Newburyport, MA

Parker River National Wildlife Refuge

The Extended Version of this paddle is designed for beginners with some experience. For this paddle we will kayak approximately 10 miles through the
Plum Island estuary from the Plum Island River bridge in Newbury to Pavillion Beach in Ipswich. During the paddle, we will explore the extensive salt marshes,
tidal creeks, and open waters behind Plum Island. We will make frequent stops en route to observe the abundant wildlife and visit points of interest.
We expect to see egrets and herons, waterfowl, ospreys, shorebirds, and many other species.

Instruction in kayaking techniques and safety procedures is provided. The fee covers kayak rental.

Experience Level for the Extended Paddle: Beginner II (some experience required; some stamina required).

Actual paddling time: Extended Paddle: 4 - 5 hours with multiple breaks.

Please Note: The 1/2 Day Paddle is a round trip which starts and finishes at the Plum Island River Bridge. This paddle is about 3 hours in length.
